Gunvor Sundgaard Happe

Gunvor Sundgaard Happe is a founding partner at Sundgaard Advokater. She is highly regarded and utmost experienced in all aspects of insolvency and restructuring and has worked in the area for more than 17 years.

For more than 11 years, Gunvor has been working as an attorney-at-law – the last year as partner – at Kammeradvokaten/the law firm Poul Schmith, the legal advisor to the Danish Government. During these years Gunvor handled a multitude of complex bankruptcies and cases in the field of insolvency. A noticeable case was the handling of the bankruptcy estate of the large bank, Amagerbanken A/S, where Gunvor held a co-leading role – a role which involved handling many complex issues within all aspects of insolvency, validity of securities, complex litigation issues, including issues regarding the banks senior funding from foreign banks.

Gunvor studied law at the University of Copenhagen and studied in England (Southampton) for two semesters.

Gunvor Sundgaard Happe is a permanent administrator at the Maritime and Commercial Courts bankruptcy division. She specializes in insolvency/restructuring and also advises Danish and international clients on commercial legal matters.

Gunvor has a background as an attorney and associated partner at the lawfirm Poul Schmith, where she worked for over 11 years, including in the department for environment and construction (real estate), the tax department, and most recently in the insolvency department.

Through her work, Gunvor has acquired in-depth knowledge of all forms of insolvency, and she has many years of experience in handling both in-court and out-of-court restructurings, as well as handling small and medium-sized bankruptcies in all industries. Including some of the largest and most complex bankruptcies in Denmark, such as the bank Amagerbanken, and several larger bankruptcy proceedings in the real estate, restaurant, and retail industries.

Gunvor has extensive experience in business transfers, foreclosures, contract drafting, negotiations, and litigation, including avoidance claims and management and auditor liability cases. For example, she has assisted with the handling of the liability case against the management and auditor in ebh bank A/S, which was one of the largest and most comprehensive bank liability cases that has been before the courts. She has also assisted the British government with a major lawsuit in Denmark.

Furthermore, Gunvor has obtained certification as an insolvency practitioner.

In addition, Gunvor is an external lecturer at CBS, Copenhagen Business School, where she lectures on bankruptcy and restructuring for auditors in training, teaches business law to business school students, and has taught entrepreneurship law.

Finally, Gunvor sits on the board of “Erhvervsjuridisk Retshjælp”, which provides voluntary advice to entrepreneurs and small business owners. She was involved in founding the association in 2018.
